"Poor Sid — You were a good guy, but..."

Jim Sullivan, The Boston Globe, 7 November 1986

SID AND Nancy, Alex Cox's film about the life and death of the Sex Pistols' bassist, Sid Vicious, and his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen, is a romantic movie about two of punk rock's most notable casualties. At the outset, the film bristles with black humor, spit-in-your-eye spunk and unruly rebellion — all true to the spirit of English punk rock of 1977-78. Along the way, the movie turns sad and squalid as Vicious and Spungen sink deeper into their heroin addiction, their emotions reduced to either hostility or stupefaction.
