THIS SPRING, I spent a very pleasant afternoon in a bar with Paddy McAloon and, inevitably, the conversation got around to Protest Songs, the Sprouts' 'Black Album'; the legendary lost album, speedily recorded soon after the release of '85's Steve McQueen and intended as a fans-only giveaway.
