Reeves Gabrels: Building …hours

Mike Mettler, Sound + Vision, 1 December 1999

AVANT-GUITARIST Reeves Gabrels began his ten-year-long collaboration with David Bowie in 1989 with the hard-edged Tin Machine project. He has since garnered a reputation as a vivid effects experimentalist, culminating in the sonic assault that dominated Bowie's 1997 release Earthling (Virgin). His work has led some to think of Gabrels — to borrow from a recent Bowie album title — as being a bit outside of the norm.
