Richard and Linda Thompson: Dominion, London

Mick Brown, The Guardian, 7 May 1982

LOOSELY SPEAKING, Richard Thompson is the sole practising legatee of the British folk-rock tradition which he was instrumental in establishing 14 years ago as a founder-member of Fairport Convention. But, of course, the reason that Thompson has survived and prospered is that his work displays a durability which has always gone beyond the limitations of the genre. Traces of country and cajun as well as British folk music surface in his writing, but at its core is a craft, conviction and stamp of quality which is quite timeless.
