Rickie Lee Jones: Manchester International Festival

Rob Hughes, Daily Telegraph, 11 July 2011

RICKIE LEE JONES isn't someone readily given to nostalgia. In a career that's now into its fifth decade, she's rarely looked back, preferring instead to press on ahead with all manner of musical fancies. At times, it's led her up some strange alleys — the beats'n'loops of 1997's Ghostyhead or 2007's noisy, semi-improvised The Sermon On Exposition Boulevard — but very rarely has it been dull. If anything though, it's the image of Rickie Lee Jones as late Seventies beatnik that remains most firmly imprinted.
