Robert Quine: Newark's Reverent Iconoclast

Gene Santoro, Guitar Player, January 1986

"YOU'VE GOT to hear this," insists Robert Quine, as he finds what he's looking for on a wall full of shelves sprouting thousands of records. He drops the B side of a 1965 Dino, Desi & Billy hit onto the turntable, and unerringly locates the opening grooves of James Burton's succinct, melodic guitar solo on 'Please Don't Fight It'. "He's amazing, isn't he?" Quine comments. "For the past three-and-a-half years, I've been digging up everything he's ever done — short of Christmas Together by John Denver with the Muppets. He's taught me a lot about how to structure a solo."
