Rodney Crowell: Country's New Laureate?

Todd Everett, L.A. Weekly, 1 October 1981

"I EXPECTED him to be more of a household word than he is now," admits Emmylou Harris, echoing the opinion of some of the world's most respected performers. "At the same time, that's not to diminish the success and the quality of the success that he's had. If he hadn't done anything but write songs like ''Til I Gain Control Again', and had the people record them who have done so, that would be plenty. What he adds to the mainstream of music with his lyrics is enough for any performer."
