Ryan Adams was alt.country’s brightest hope – the new Gram Parsons, no less – till his band Whiskeytown unravelled. Then he veered off the No Depression highway and made a raw, rambunctious solo record called Heartbreaker. Now the third Whiskeytown album Pneumonia – a victim of Universal’s unceremonious dumping of the Outpost label – is out on Nashville’s new Lost Highway imprint.
