Salsoul Orchestra: Salsoul Hustlers (Salsoul SZS 5501. $6.98)

Mike Jahn, High Fidelity, April 1976

MORE THAN forty performers participated in the creation of this album, which nominally contributes to the current salsa trend but which in this case is more aptly described as Latin Muzak. The melodies usually are played by the string section or sung by its handful of breathless female singers, making it all sound rather like Mantovani had stopped off in Spanish Harlem on his way home.
