WE HAD the wireless on throughout. Sam Cooke wore red-patterned pyjamas, a black dressing-gown and a beaten gold ring, which he wears because he doesn't like diamonds — or any precious stones for that matter. He lounged about on his bed and when something amused him, which was often, he threw back his head and roared like a bull.
