Slade: Slade In Flame (Polydor)

Simon Frith, Let It Rock, February 1975

Some things I'm sure of: Noddy Holder is a great rock singer, up there with the best of British, with John Lennon, even. And Slade are the best of the new 1970s teenage raves, simply in terms of craftsmanship; nobody else makes such consistently fine stomping music. Listen to 'Standin' On the Comer' here, joyous rock'n'roll with added brass which couldn't be bettered by anyone else, pub-rockers, the Faces, or whoever.
