Sleeper: Town & Country, Leeds

Dave Simpson, The Guardian, 11 December 1996

LOUISE Wener is a curious phenomenon. Hers is the face that has launched a thousand front covers; her sharp tongue has spawned a million "quotable quotes". But while the press pore over her anti-PC sexual politics, her music is barely mentioned. Which is a shame, as her band Sleeper have matured into a fine pop singles outfit. 'What Do I Do Now?', 'Sale Of The Century' and the lush 'Vegas' would grace any Blondie album.
