Spoon: Transference

Bud Scoppa, Uncut, February 2010

IN 2001, BRITT DANIEL AND JIM ENO — the Austin-based founders of Spoon — hit upon the sound that would carry them through the ensuing decade. 'Everything Hits At Once', the opening track of their third album, Girls Can Tell, served as the blueprint for the mature Spoon sound: spare, propulsive, detailed with Rolex precision. No modern-day guitar-pop band has been more focused on the groove, laid down by Eno with both Bonham-like heft and the behind-the-beat momentum of Charlie Watts.
