Stax-Volt Review: Finsbury Park Astoria, London

Bill Millar, Soul Music, April 1967

It was perfectly clear that every performer on the Stax show was going to receive the most sympathetic applause should he or she subsequently turn out to be thoroughly excellent or near-mediocre. For the second house, the place was packed to capacity and the curtains parted whilst many, including myself, were still finding their seats. Consequently, the repertoire of the M.G.s is none too clear but first off they appeared to be playing 'Gimme Some Lovin'' – some may prefer to think it was Homer Banks 'Lot Of Love'.
