Strawbs featuring Sandy Denny: All Our Own Work (Hallmark)

Colin Irwin, Melody Maker, 9 March 1974

GET THE duster out, mother. Clear those cobwebs away, here's one from the archives. The Strawbs and Sandy Denny together recorded in 1968. The first recordings any of them made, it says here, giggle, giggle. Should be good for a laugh. Yet it's not, it's immoveable proof of what a great singer Sandy was even then. It also reveals maturity in Dave Cousins' writing for he was responsible for penning nine of the twelve tracks on the album, the best of which is 'And You Need Me'.
