SOMETIMES IT seems a shame that pop promoters long ago abandoned the old-fashioned style of rapid-fire package shows, in which seven or eight singers or groups were each given a maximum of 20 minutes to say their piece. Egos and investments nowadays stand in the way of such a sensible and entertaining concept, but it would provide the perfect setting for many new bands whose ideas are as yet insufficiently developed to sustain a full 45-minute set.
