FROM THEIR inception back in the early part of the last decade, the Beach Boys were at the pinnacle of the rock establishment, with an educated finger on the pulse of teenage America and a world-wide following few contemporary recording artists can match. Yet the latter part of the decade found them in fading fortunes, their status as teen titans traded for a position of patronly respect in the burgeoning underground. Quite happily, the last year has borne witness to a dramatic regeneration of their activity, and indications are that the long-suffered Beach Boy famine may finally have passed.
