The Bits and Myths of Lene Lovich

Mick Brown, Rolling Stone, 9 August 1979

A VISION IN black, even her gingerbread pigtails decorated with a wedding cake of black lace, Lene Lovich sits in the unassuming offices of Stiff Records like a bit of Transylavania in a broom closet. A touch of the Victorian governess here, a spicing of Eastern European gothic, garage-sale chic there, Lovich can go round in circles in the morning before settling on a wardrobe that meets the required criteria of high style and medium temperature. "I get ideas," she says in a voice that is little more than a whisper. "Like right now, I've got this idea about net curtains..." Which explains why she is wearing one around her neck.
