The Doors and Joy Division: 2 Dead Bands Still Going Strong

Jim Sullivan, The Boston Globe, 6 September 1981

TWO OF the most intriguing rock 'n' roll bands of the '80s exist on the airwaves, on vinyl and in the consciousness of fans in America and England. That's all. Those fans will never see the groups perform. The Doors and Joy Division are ex-bands, formed 10 years apart and linked by sound and vision — seductive music filled with angst and existential despair. They're also linked by the tragedy of mortal coincidence. The Doors Jim Morrison and Joy Division's Ian Curtis each fulfilled the dark promise of their art: They died young and unhappy, finding their ultimate release in self-destruction.
