The Earl Slick Band: Earl Slick (Capitol)

Richard Cromelin, Phonograph Record, April 1976

THE DEBUT of the Slick white Earl is promising, but the album's preoccupation with precision, correctness and conformity to prevailing hard-rock standards all but eliminate strong rock 'n' roll expression. In demonstrating that his outfit can execute competently in a variety of stylistic directions (few of which are all that worthy of further expansion), the latest former Bowie lead guitarist surrenders much individuality and power (that he possesses both is evident on some of Station to Station's tracks).
