The Four Tops: One More Mountain (Casablanca)

WHEN MARVIN Gaye recorded What's Going On in the early '70s it was part of an important transition for the Motown label, its mixture of the spiritual and socio-policital overview giving the label and its music new vitality and maturity. Renaldo Benson of The Four Tops played an important part in this reawakening, co-writing several songs on the album. Meanwhile the Four Tops, along with several of the top Motown vocal combos of the '60s, encountered barren years, the victims of changing times and taste.
