The Grateful Dead: Without A Net

Edwin Pouncey, Vox, November 1990

THE GRATEFUL DEAD are the kind of rocking teenage combo who are at their very best when they're playing wild and free in front of an appreciative audience of young followers. The bulk of their finest recorded work has been captured this way as the band carefully pick through their voluminous songbook to rip out a new song or embellish an old favourite. Without A Net (a whopping three LP/double CD-cassette package) gathers together the most memorable moments of their '89/'90 US tour and acts as a musical monument to keyboards player Brent Mydland, who recently died through drug abuse.
