The Jesus And Mary Chain: Brixton Academy

David Stubbs, Melody Maker, 24 December 1988

FOR TOO LONG, this was the doldrums, the Reid brothers meandering through the dry ice as if it were a miserable February fog in Brechin. And at the Brixton Academy, the subtle rhythms of the doldrums are not enough to fill the place. You can fill the place with people, and to be sure, the Mary Chain did that, but to fill every last corner of the Academy you have to open up and blaze in a manner inimical to the Reid brothers.
