THE KNACK'S last album not only drew critical catcalls for its attempt to plagiarize mid-'60s British pop but it failed to repeat the popular success of the band's debut LP. So for Round Trip, the clever Los Angeles quartet went back to the drawing board, teaming with crack producer Jack Douglas for what promised to be a careful and ambitious revision of style.
