WHENEVER I USED to say I liked the MC5, I would always preface the statement with some remark like "sure, I know they're a bunch of pretentious clowns, but...". It was none other than that noted connoisseur of Detroit rock, Lester Bangs, who taught me not to make excuses for my opinions.
