The Neville Brothers: Brother's Keeper

Richard Cook, Select, September 1990

NEW ORLEANS is a difficult place to characterise, at least as far as its music is concerned. Ernie K-Doe, the veteran R&B singer and one of the city's favourite sons, reckons that all music comes from there. With due respect to Ernie, it may be more accurate to suggest that most music went there — and out of that melting pot came Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Smiley Lewis, Professor Longhair, Wynton Marsalis and The Neville Brothers.
