The Ramones: Weird Tales Of The Ramones

Jon Savage, MOJO, August 2005

NOTHING CAN recapture the impact of how The Ramones sounded in spring 1976. Listening to it now, it sounds slow, formal, almost sedate: the Superpop that the group always wanted to be. But to hear those 14 clipped slogan/songs nearly 30 years ago was like sticking your hand into the wall socket or hitting the downward slope of a particularly vertiginous rollercoaster the cumulative effect was so fast, so brutal, so compulsive that your hair stood on end. How could any human being make this noise, and where do I join?
