Paul Wellings, 'Spend it Like Beckham', 2005
THE BEST FANZINES in the mid 80s were The End (from Liverpool, written by Pete Hooton, lead singer of The Farm, whose single Altogether Now got the Spoony re-mix treatment as the official Euro 2004 anthem); and two I contributed to: Boys Own (from London written by Terry Farley and Andrew Weatherallnow superstar DJs) and Soul Underground (from London, which was the rare groove scenes in-house, indispensable read). The big "casual" records were Evelyn Champagne Kings Love Come Down, Universal Robot Bands Barely Breaking Even and Joe Smooths Promised Land.
