The Sex Pistols: Kick out the jams
Dave Marsh, Rolling Stone, 25 August 1977
IT CONTRAVENES logic, but there is little doubt in my mind that the most important record of the past year is the Sex Pistols' 'God Save the Queen'. This does not qualify it for immortality — significance is not always art — but it does beg closer scrutiny. And the funny thing is, as the group bounces back and forth from record label to record label, banned hither and yon and inciting both praise and damnation for its obnoxious qualities, the case of the Sex Pistols begins to seem more and more familiar.
