The Stone Roses: Where Angels Play

Bob Stanley, Melody Maker, 26 May 1990

It may not seem it to non-believers, but it's been a mighty long time since the Stone Roses last played a gig. That was at Alexandra Palace, mid-November 1989, and Spike Island — the 30,000 capacity monster — is now a matter of days away. How better for the band to warm up for it and ease any jittery nerves than with a handful of low-key gigs to low-number audiences in hopelessly polite, desperately un-rocking Scandinavia? Bob Stanley reports from Stockholm.
