BEST REMEMBERED for the harpsichord heroin eulogy 'Golden Brown' (which reached No 2 in the UK singles chart in January 1982), the Stranglers and their French, kung-fu-fighting bassist Jean-Jacques Burnel were finally left high and dry in 1990 when singer Hugh Cornwell decided to quit around the same time that Epic Records dropped them.
