Toto's Eclipse of the Art

Mike Mettler, Rock's Backpages, April 2008

HAVE WE PERHAPS witnessed the last hurrah for the mega-selling studio-musos-cum-touring-phenoms Toto? According to guitarist/vocalist/co-founder Steve Lukather, "we're winding it down. This DVD [Falling in Between Live, on Eagle Vision] is our swan song, so to speak. I don't see us doing anything in the near future. Everybody's gonna do some different things for a while. But," he quickly adds, "I'm not saying we'll never play together again. We'll see what happens in a few years' time." Seeing how you can never truly keep an old road dog down - "I'll stay on the road forever" - Lukather already plans to inaugurate a tour in June to support his latest solo effort, Ever Changing Times (Ride). In the meantime, he had plenty to say about Toto and its oft-misunderstood place in the rock universe.
