THE MOST distinctive advance in American rock guitar of the last decade has been the so-called "southern" approach. Large groups of extremely talented pickers have been funneled into tiny geographical areas, such as Peach Tree County, Georgia. One of the newest recruits into these Confederate ranks established by groups like the Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Wet Willie – is Toy Caldwell, lead guitarist of the Marshall Tucker Band.
