Traffic Is Very Heavy Today: An Interview With Steve Winwood

AT THE time I interviewed Steve Winwood, Traffic's American tour had just been cancelled, and Steve himself was rumored to be in a state of exhaustion, his voice lost. Further, through an inevitable but necessary delay, I hadn't been able to obtain a test pressing of the group's second album (Traffic) and so could ask no really pertinent or detailed questions about it. Not the right time for a rap, you say? I thought so, too — but how wrong I was! Steve proved to be beautifully cooperative, and we got along so well that we talked for hours.
