IT WAS 11.30 pm on Christmas Eve, 1976, at the height of the punk explosion. To the dismay of the entire nation, I had temporarily abandoned my role as a freelance Rock'n'Roll Scribe in favour of rather more lucrative employment as a delivery-van driver for a fancy Wine Club (perks included the… er… acquisition of a couple of cases of fine wines each day).
