Where's the Love In, man?: The mystery of London's legendary lost Love In Festival of 1967

Jon Newey, Flashback, Summer 2017

In July 1967 the biggest gathering of psychedelic groups ever held in the UK up to that point took place at London's Alexandra Palace right at the peak of the Summer of Love. The Love In Festival was disparaged in advance by the underground press as a copy of the 14 Hour Technicolor Dream, which was staged in the same venue three months earlier, and subsequently this spectacular sound and light extravaganza has been largely forgotten, and omitted from most books and articles about the 1960s English underground. Jon Newey was there and casts his memory back to this landmark event together with further recollections by underground DJ Jeff Dexter, 1960s archivist Phil Smee and photographer Michael Putland.
