Willie Nile: Streets Of New York

David Hepworth, The Word, April 2006

MUSICIANS NEVER give up, which is more often a cause for sadness than celebration. I reviewed my last Willie Nile record in 1980. I thought it was great. It went nowhere. Now here we are 25 years later, he's still a squirt of a New Yorker with a Willie de Ville pompadour and a leather jacket, spinning gleeful urban fairy tales like a kid who's just turned up at the bus station and the hilarious, unguessable truth about this new record is that it's even better.
