Victor Bockris presents Susan Sontag & Richard Hell, New York City, 1978
Victor Bockris, The Poetry Project, February 1995
IT WAS THE EVENING of the fifteen-foot snow blizzard and SUSAN SONTAG was due at my Greenwich Village apartment from her 107th Street penthouse at seven p.m. Feeing certain she wouldn't make it — or shouldn't be expected to struggle through it on her own — I had gamely offered to pick her up in a cab. Everyone laughed, but when I stepped out of my apartment, allowing ample time to scour the streets for any vehicle, a large empty Checker was idling at the curb. Consequently I arrived fifteen minutes early at Sontag's residence.
