WHEN I WAS first privileged to hear some of Aretha Franklin's Amazing Grace album when John Abbey brought back from the States several cassettes'-worth of the recordings made (a proportion of which don't appear on the finished product) a short time after the actual event, I was excited, but to be truthful not as knocked out as I usually am by Aretha's recordings.
