Coconut Kid as Cruise Caruso: Kid Creole
Paul Rambali, NME, 23 May 1981
KID CREOLE And The Coconuts release their second long player, title Fresh Fruit In Foreign Places, in a couple of weeks' time. A 12-song 'concept album' based on a cruise August Darnell took on the QE2 last year, it contains such frothy equatorial concoctions as 'I Never Understood Latin Music' and 'I Never Understood American Music'. It is a fact that in Cuba alone, there are reckoned to be a total of 61 separate and distinctive rhythms. Kid Creole's Caribbean affair promises to be a long one.
