David Essex: Manchester Palace, Manchester
Paul Morley, NME, 13 November 1976
CLEAN ROCK from the super slick, sadly lackadaisical David Essex Band at the plush Manchester Palace is a harmless way to waste a few hollow Sunday hours. Only when Essex sinks to earnestly crooning the kind of monogamous puddings ballads David Cassidy "perfected" prior to clipping the hip-pal route to credibility does the evening dip below sheer competence.
