In the case oi Miss Erma Franklin renowned sister of Lady Soul, Aretha, it's a matter of 'if it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all', an adage that crops up in many a blues tune. For Erma's professional career seems to have been dogged with consistent misfortune all of which has been through circumstances beyond anybody's control — at least most times.
