Gutterball: Gutterball

Jason Cohen, Creem, July 1993

GUTTERBALL IS one-time Dream Syndicate leader Steve Wynn, House of Freaks members Bryan Harvey and Johnny Hott, their part-time guitarist (and ex-Silo) Bob Rupe, and former Long Ryder Stephen McCarthy. The band's existence is based on one quick and messy weekend of writing and recording at a farmhouse in Richmond, Virginia, where everyone but Wynn resides. The token Angeleno is a commanding presence, acting as proficient frontman and co-writing (with Harvey) eight of the record's twelve songs, as well as three more by himself (the remaining track is by McCarthy).
