2000 WAS PARTLY about waiting for Yorko: waiting for the follow-up to the huge, incandescent, panoramic, faux-pomp OK Computer. And when Kid A finally arrived its message seemed to be no more than WE ARE NOT A ROCK GROUP. No guitars, no R.E.M./U2 stadium-rock-with-IQs guitar anthemics. Live, the band’s new Warped avant-pop sat uneasily alongside the crunching Bends rockers and the Computer lamentations.
