KILLED IN A PLANE crash in 1973, just weeks after his first US Number One single, Jim Croce was a master of tender beauty and deceptive simplicity. A no-nonsense, folksy (as opposed to folky) performer, he drew comparisons with James Taylor, albeit with a broader, blue collar appeal, and had the potential to become one of the biggest stars of the decade.
