Madonna: Like A Prayer
Lloyd Bradley, Q, May 1989
TRUE BLUE was not going to be bettered and the three years since haven't been Madonna's easiest, so Like A Prayer follows the only logical course a very different one, and, rather than kid us that all is well, makes full use of the emotions that must have recently built up. The title track is an accurate taste of what follows; musically it's varied, unexpected and far from instantly accessible; lyrically, it's moving, intelligent and candid.
