Malcolm McLaren: Building Better Bandwagons
Danny (Shredder) Weizmann, L.A. Weekly, 22 March 1985
Me on Malcolm: Just in case youve been on Pluto or in Fresno for the last eight years, Malcolm McLaren is news with a capital N. Not so much a manager or a producer, McLaren is more of a culture chemist... Idea Brother Number One, tampering with media til they come clean with some brainstorm that is fresh, subversive and, most of all, surprising. Hes the guy who brought you the Sex Pistols, Bow Wow Wow, Duck Rock and, to a lesser extent, Adam and the Ants. His most recent album project, Fans (Island), combines opera (Puccinis Madame Butterfly) and beat-box drumming "uptown and downtown," as he describes it. Strangely enough, Mr. McLaren claims that this most recent venture will be his last tango with the record industry. Hes beelining it into the world of film and theatre.
