Robert Palmer: Some People Can Do What They Like (Island)

Radio Pete, Rocky Mountain Musical Express, December 1976

ROBERT PALMER'S latest release, like his first two solo L.P.'s Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley and Pressure Drop is based on rhythm. And that's good. An undulating beat similar to the throbbing bass lines heard from groups like the Ohio Players and Little Feat lies beneath most of the songs included here. Like so many Limeys, Palmer's interest in Soul music began in his youth when anything black and American held a deep fascination for him. See if you can hear his roots on standout cuts like 'Have Mercy', 'Gotta Get A Grip On You' and 'Keep In Touch'.
