GEORGE ISN'T GOOD in the mornings. He strides out of his room, straight back, arms paddling by his side, in black. He catches your eye. You say: "Morning." He may grunt. He might say, mock-querulously, shortly and sharply: "Hello," pursing his lips as he does.
