T. Rex: 'The Mania Never Stops'

HUMILITY HAS never been one of man's virtues. Whether warranted or not, we tend to exaggerate our credibility. What we must never forget is why we are where we are.

In the case of elected officials, the incumbent is in his position 'cuz the people thought he could do the best job. Should he let us down during his period in office, we'll do away with him the next time around. Or rather, those who believe his qualifications and promises failed to live up to expectations, will attempt to do him in. Sometimes the media, the money, is so intensely behind a particular individual that change is almost impossible, even though the majority deem it desirable.

In the case of the pop star, change is not so calculated. And more often than not, claimer to the rugged throne of rock and roll is likely to slip at a seconds notice. No matter his aspirations. Always there is the competition, despite what goes down in print or elsewhere the people will ultimately determine if what is in the grooves meets with satisfaction promises, claims and stands are irrelevant here.

Writer Harold Bronson recently interviewed Mr. T. Rex, Marc Bolan, at which time some relatively heavy campaign promises were laid down. Presently one may lean towards believing Bolan's indulgent statements of greatness, but for how many months?
